Who am I?
My name is Margarida Moreira and
I born fascinated for plants.
Still at an early age, I would already go through the gardens and woods barefoot. I wanted to feel the soft moss and the ardor of acorns. I had the feeling that I was the only one with these sensations, as if it was a blessing. That feeling, that curiosity – I let it grow like a little seed that is still growing with myself. When I finished high school and all my friends had already decided that they wanted to be, I felt, one more time, like all common graduations would not fit me.
Since I had so many interests in different sciences and researches, about living connected to the land… I decided that the best step that I could do is taking a graduation that could completely realize me. I found then the perfect graduation: Phytopharmacy, Aromatic and Medicinal Plants. A splendid alliance between healthcare, science and agriculture.
So now, I became what I am today: a mesmerized woman by nature!
What I do?
During my Bachelor degree in Phytopharmacy, Aromatic and Medicinal Plants I started acquiring some experience in the various nature specific fields (with internships in Portugal) as well as producing my first products. After I graduated in Phytopharmacy, Aromatic and Medical Plants I felt compelled to work in a well established company, in order to earn some experience. I joined a company in Germany that specializes in biological products and worked there until the end of 2014. This helped me understand that how I could help make a difference in the world.
I fight for a sustainable Earth, and now I know how to do it. How to protect our own and yet unique home. There is a lot that we can, should and must change. I am here to get the word out, educate and teach all I could!
In this website I initiate my next phase on work in bio-plants with special properties, bio-cosmetics and bio-pharmaceuticals. I also give healthcare advice’s and education for sustainable agriculture. I focus myself on the disclosure of which is the Phytopharmacy and its potentials, as well as various techniques to recover what belongs to us all: our planet!
What is Phytopharmacy?
Phytophamarcy (also known as Phytopharmacology) is not easy to describe. That is because the meaning of the term has being changing. The first time that it was mentioned was by the scientist David Macht (1930’s) for the area of the effects of drugs on plants. After that it changed and stabilized in the research and use of active substances (drugs) from plants, that were applied in animals and humans. This is because all species co-evolved, creating chemical interactions that can be studied. A field Macht would have called zoopharmacology, where the drugs are applied to humans or animals.
The advantages of seeking medicines from plants are due both to the millions of years of co-evolution between plants and animals which has led to interactions between their constituent chemicals developing, and the nature of enzyme driven synthesis leading to optically pure chiral molecules whose reactions in the mammalian body can be very specific.
Phytopharmology was born and with it, new fields such as Phytomedicine, Phytotherapy and Phytophamarcy (or Phytophamarcology).
