VICKS VapoRub ointment is prescribed as a cough suppressant and topical analgesic.

Health professionals recommend for the relief of coughs, colds and malaise.

Ingredients for homemade VapoRub:

180 g cocoa butter
80 g coconut oil
20 g eucalyptus macerate in olive oil
20 g beeswax (alternative for vegans: soy wax / olive wax)

Add the following essential oils:
20 drops of eucalyptus essential oil
20 drops of peppermint essential oil
10 drops of Rosemary essential oil
10 drops of thyme essential oil

1. Add the cocoa butter, coconut oil, beeswax and olive oil heating in Bain-marie, in astainless steel saucepan.
2. As soon as the ingredients are melted, remove from the Bain-marie and allow to cool up to 35ºc.
3. Incorporate the essential oils, stirring well.
4. Allow to cool completely and store in a glass jar in a cool, dry and dark place.

Apply: Rub Vaporub liberally on the chest, throat, soles of the feet and back. Rub in well over the whole area and leave nightclothes loose for easy inhalation. Or melt two teaspoons of this ointment in very hot water and inhale the vapours.

Warnings: Do not apply to broken skin, wounds or mucous membranes. Do not swallow or apply directly onto the nostrils, eyes, mouth or face. For external use only.

Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients. Do not administer to children < 2 years. Do not use as an inhalation for children < 12 years.
