Preferences CultivationSucceeds in any moderately fertile or dry but well-drained soil. Sun exposure however it adapts to shaded areas. Although wind-resistant, do not support severe maritime exposure or cold winds. In colder regions, you should protect the plant in winter. When dormant, survives at temperatures up to about -5°C, with occasional low to about -15ºC, can result in losing leaves, but will reborn in late spring or early summer of the following year.
Method of propagationSowing - ripens in early autumn in greenhouses. Dioecious plant and can not self-fertilize. Place the plant in a pot for a year and transplant them to the permanent location in early summer, protect it in the first winters.

Properties MedicinalDigestive, treats bronchitis, colds and flu. Has anticancer properties, antiseptic, astringent, carminative, diuretic, emetic (induces vomiting), tones the stomach, stimulates appetite and the secretion of digestive juices. When consumed in high doses has narcotic properties and is emmenagogue (promotes menstruation). The oil of the fruit is used externally to treat sprains and bruises, and the oil has flohas narcotic, antibacterial and fungicidal properties.
Properties EdibilityIt seasoning soups, sweets and meat dishes. Sweet and balsamic aroma, highlight the notes nutmeg, camphor and a refreshing astringency. The bay is the ingredient that is never lacking in Portuguese cuisine, is perfect for soups, stews, all kinds of meat and rice. Combine marjoram, sage, savory and thyme.
